So I have been researching a lot about supervillains. Why? It looks like my schools homecoming theme might be Superheroes. My friends and I kinda figured it out when we discovered all the seniors now really hate our grade because of something that has to do with homecoming. I was out with two student council reps when they told us the two options they were choosing. Another person in the group added "Please don't let the juniors be villains." So we assume that's what ended up happening.
During my research, because I could only think of two supervillainess Catwoman and Poison Ivy, I came across a VERY interesting quote from Christopher Nolan who of course directs the Batman movies. He was putting to rest the rumors of who was the next Batman villain. Rumors have been swirling that it's The Riddler or The Penguin. He said that he would like to use The Riddler. He also added that he would not have Robin be in the series. Mainly because Christian Bale is portraying a young Batman. He then went on to say that he thought that The Penguin would be a little tricky to portray on film. I shake my head with this one... because if he got Philip Seymour Hoffman to take that role he could prove them wrong.
However David S. Goyle then said that he would rather use a villain that hasn't been portrayed yet in the film franchise. This puzzles me quite a bit. Because ALL the reaccuring villains have already been used. Catwoman and The Penquin were in Tim Burton's second film. The Joker was in his first as well as The Dark Knight. The Scarecrow was in The Dark Knight and Batman Begins. Ras Al Guhl was in also in Batman Begins. Poison Ivy was in Batman and Robin as well as Mr. Freeze and Bane. Two Face was in both The Dark Knight and Batman Forever. The Riddler was also in Batman Forever. That covers ALL of the reaccuring characters.
There is only one that hasn't been and you would have needed Heath Ledger. That character is Harley Quinn. She apparently originally appeared in the TV series and was so popular she was written in the comic books. Only problem she is the love interest of The Joker. Therefore you would need someone to fill Heath's very big shoes and play the Joker. In my opinion it is best to not write him into the movie. They should leave him out because everyone will compare the next to Ledger and in my opinion no one can compare. She is also best friends with Poison Ivy and they eventually become enemies.
However there are other villains... but I think after the death of Rachel Dawes it would be fun to see Harley Quinn in the next movie. There could be a lot of sexual tension. But there are other villains in the comics just they aren't as big as the ones that have already been used

Hmmmm...very, very interesting take on it. Thanks for posting on my blog, sorry i havent checked it in a while (www.tvmoviesports.blogspot.com).
I feel the same as probably every other batman fan- I would love to see The Riddler, played by Johnny Depp. It has been rumored since The Dark Knight came out and i think it would be cool. Jim Carrey was okay as Riddler, but I don't like comedy actors playing in a serious movie, even if it is the part of Riddler. They need someone who will take the role seriously, like Heath Ledger did as Joker.
I, as well, would like to see Penguin, but i dont know if I want Riddler and Penguin in the same movie. I like how they did it in Dark Knight. They had one main villain and a secondary one. The risk of using 2 main villains in the movie is kind of what happened in Spiderman 3. It just didnt work out well.
As far as an unused villain in any previous batman movie, that is a tough one. I think they should stick to recognizable villains, and have them be awesome like the Joker.
Great Post
