REPO! The Genetic Opera- Release Date November 7, 2008

Um... I first heard about this movie because of Paris Hilton. I immediately wanted to see who else was attached to this project because I immediately felt very bad for them. After all I think Paris Hilton as a cast member spells D-O-O-M when it comes to the box office. Of course it is her typical choice of a horror film. Wonder if she dies in this one? Anyways I was really sad to see Alexa Vega attached to this project. You may remember her from the Spy Kids movies. I actually didn't think much of her acting chops until the tv movie Odd Girl Out. She did a great job and showed that she can act. I didn't know she could sing until I came across a clip of her in Hairspray. She has quite the voice. But after hearing her in the trailer it doesn't sound so great.

I will also say that Paris is almost unrecognizable at first. She dressed up all gothic with a long black wig. Then she opens her mouth and you know exactly who she is. I will admit that there are far worse singers out there but still if your gonna make a movie musical the choose people with more talent. And there certainly are some people with talent in that area when you see the trailer.

However as strange as the film's plot sounds. The trailer makes me want to go see the movie. However the clip with Paris makes me think twice. Believe it or not it's not because of her but because this movie looks EXTREMELY GORY. I honestly enjoy a lot of movies that have quite the amount of blood in them but not because of that reason. However this movie looks extremely bloody. The Paris Hilton clip involves her character dancing/having sex in a pool of blood and the trailer involves some guts. Basically its on the level of a graphic novel made into a movie.

Basically I can tell you that this movie looks a lot like Rocky Horror Picture Show. It's a very strange looking movie with some strange looking characters. Only a very bloody and gory version of it- it's definitely under the slasher film category. Not only that but it is becoming a cult classic already with quite the fan base already talking. It will be a limited release and there is no word yet on what cities it will be showing in. Apparently it has received positive reviews in test screenings which really surprises me.

UPDATE!
I think I will cut this movie some slack. I just read an article about the casting of Paris Hilton in this movie. Initially she wanted to audition and the director REFUSED to see her. Basically cause he feared media backlash and what it would do to the movie success. I will say thats really funny cause I didn't even hear about this movie until I saw it on Perez Hilton... even more funny cause I almost NEVER read his site. When he finally caved she came in dressed perfectly for the part and rocked the studio booth audition. Also to reiterate this movie is a limited release. Apparently word is that it will only play on 10 screens. BUMMER!
