Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is no longer coming out in on its original release date. So don't expect to go to theatres on November 21, 2008 to see the movie. Apparently the release date has been moved back to July 2009. Warner Bros. who is the studio who distributes the movies says they blame the writer's strike. Apparently the writers strike greatly affected their big summer movies for 2009. Therefore they need a franchise like Harry Potter to make up for all those movies that won't be able to make it in time. Their exact quote on the matter...
"Like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films-changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of," he said. "We agreed the best strategy was to move 'Half-Blood Prince' to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent pole release for mid-summer."
However David Heyman who has produced all the film in the Harry Potter franchise has a very different answer. He claims that a summer release will help them get a wider audience. As he said in one article...
"When Jeff Robinov explained the rationale behind moving the release date of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince to July 17, 2009, it was immediately apparent that this offered us the potential to reach the widest possible audience. I am extremely proud of this latest film and of the work of David Yates and our incomparable cast; I believe we have developed and pushed the series further still. We are all looking forward to sharing it with Harry Potter fans around the world, even if we have to wait just a bit longer."
First off I LOVE how he refers to himself in third person. Also Jeff Robinov, President of Warner Bros. brought up how now the gap between the sixth film and the seventh's two parts have shorten. Which he says makes the change a lot nicer for fans.
Filming for the seventh movie will begin in February. Warner Bros. does plan to release that movie in TWO parts. Those two parts will be released almost six months apart.
